How I Plan and Shoot Photos by Myself

I don’t take a lot of photos by myself. Most of the time I’m fortunate enough to have my little sister, one of my best friends, or my boyfriend there to snap photos for me. But sometimes, I go all out and the tripod comes with me.

Today I’m going to be sharing the workflow behind how I plan all my photoshoots and also how I shoot some of them by myself. Like the ones in this post today!

    Scouting Locations

I am always scouting locations. Anytime I’m driving somewhere, walking to work, or out on a run I’m looking at places through a photographer’s lens. Something I fine-tuned during my days gallivanting across Europe.

Sometimes I’m just looking for the basics: good lighting, and a basic Insta backdrop. Usually this implies shade or a white background. Maybe lots of flowers, a cute door, or just outside seating.

Over the past few months though, I like to think I’ve become more creative with how I shoot shots and how I want them framed. This in turn affects me picking locations. Think branches to hold, or a light post to lean off of, stairs to be moody on.

But my favorite obsession: the ugly location challenge. I obsessed over this last year when it went viral with Kelsey Maggart and have been so inspired ever since.

    Three Graduation Outfits with PrettyLittleThing

*This post is in collaboration with Pretty Little Thing. I received items from Pretty Little Thing to write this post, but all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support College with Caitlyn.

The day this goes live there are only 46 days until I graduate from college. *Cue the confetti and happy dances*

I started keeping track a few weeks ago when Abigail were recording a podcast episode and were talking about how soon graduation was. So now I have an official countdown on the white board next to my desk that gets updated religiously every night before bed.

Up until about a month ago I wasn’t even sure I wanted to walk at graduation. I was just more excited about not having weekly quizzes and like forty problems of homework a week (and that’s just for one of my four classes).

But then I realized if I walk at graduation that I get to wear a super cute outfit, and that’s where this post comes in! PrettyLittleThing actually reached out to me about showcasing items from their graduation shop. And let me tell you, these pieces are STUNNING.

    Blue Bardot Frill Dress

This was the piece I was most excited about because it’s literally like my brand colors. #ThatCoolTonedLife

Ariana Grande Vibes: OTK Boots and Sweatshirt Dress

I had zero intentions of dressing like Ariana Grande on purpose. I promise. It just sorta happened.

A couple weeks ago I got this sweatshirt from Aerie, and quickly returned it for an XL when I realized I could easily wear it as a dress. Best decision ever!! I also just ordered it in the dark gray color, too!

I haven’t worn it with anything else yet, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to become one of my “I’m cold in my apartment” sweatshirts and wear it to bed every night. Plus, did I mention it has pockets!? Um, sold.

DIY Salon Acrylic Nails At Home

    diy acrylic nails

I have always dreamed of having long beautiful nails. You know, those nails that you can tap on everything and that make you seem so elegant and put together?

Like I remember forcing my mom to buy me those stick on nails as a kid. And I also remember being so frustrated when they would fall off every five minutes. So when I heard my co-worker say she used glue-on nails I was skeptical. Turns out, they’re one of the best things that I could have tried.

What kind of nails do I use?

The first pack I bought were the Kiss Naturals in the stiletto shape. After I used all of those, I ordered two one-hundred packs off Amazon of the stiletto shape again. However, this time they weren’t the natural nails, so they aren’t as thick, and look strange when worn without polish. They are longer and pointer though. Neither differences were a big deal for me since I always paint them and always file them down quite a bit.

All of Kiss’s nails have a tiny number on the bottom to tell you the size so you don’t have to waste time trying to sort them yourself, too. The smaller the number, the larger the nail. I haven’t tried their already painted nails, but I feel like they would work the exact same, you just can’t buy them in bulk.
