I Wore a Fake Lip Ring and Something Happened I Didn’t Expect

Something people notice about me right away is how many piercings I have. As of when I’m writing this, I have nine piercings. Eight of them are on my ears and I also have a nose ring. But a couple of weeks ago, I also had a lip ring… for a couple days.

You see, my little sister had told me about how she bought some fake nose rings and I had the thought to use one as a lip ring and pull a prank on my boyfriend. I set the whole thing up to make him think it was real and even texted him about how I was planning on getting a new piercing one day before work. Then I sent him this photo and the charade began.

I wouldn’t see him for at least another 24 hours so I actually wore the ring to work and classes the next day to get used to how it felt. It took some time to realize what I couldn’t do with it in. I couldn’t laugh really big or smile wide because it would pop off. It fell off while I was eating ice cream and putting on chapstick was impossible with the position it was in. I had to learn all these things so it seemed real when my boyfriend finally saw it in person.

But the thing is, right away I noticed this was more than just a prank. It had turned into a social experiment.

Knack: The Best Backpack for a Young Professional

    * I received this product as a gift for review from Knack Bags. I may make a small commission if you make a purchase through one of my links with no additional cost to you. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support Life with Caitlyn.

As my college life came to a close and post-grad plans started to loom, I immediately started thinking about giving off a more professional vibe. It started with me buying nicer work pants, an actual watch to wear every day, and now a professional tech/travel backpack.

It was perfect timing when Knack Bags reached out to me a couple of months ago about trying out one of their backpacks. My mind immediately brought up images of all the men in suits and woman in heels walking around downtown last summer during my internship toting professional looking passenger bags and backpacks to carry all their belongings. Nothing screams professional like a grown-up bag to carry your grown-up things right? So I said yes.

I’ve been using the bag for about two months now and guys I am IN LOVE with this backpack.

How I Plan and Shoot Photos by Myself

I don’t take a lot of photos by myself. Most of the time I’m fortunate enough to have my little sister, one of my best friends, or my boyfriend there to snap photos for me. But sometimes, I go all out and the tripod comes with me.

Today I’m going to be sharing the workflow behind how I plan all my photoshoots and also how I shoot some of them by myself. Like the ones in this post today!

    Scouting Locations

I am always scouting locations. Anytime I’m driving somewhere, walking to work, or out on a run I’m looking at places through a photographer’s lens. Something I fine-tuned during my days gallivanting across Europe.

Sometimes I’m just looking for the basics: good lighting, and a basic Insta backdrop. Usually this implies shade or a white background. Maybe lots of flowers, a cute door, or just outside seating.

Over the past few months though, I like to think I’ve become more creative with how I shoot shots and how I want them framed. This in turn affects me picking locations. Think branches to hold, or a light post to lean off of, stairs to be moody on.

But my favorite obsession: the ugly location challenge. I obsessed over this last year when it went viral with Kelsey Maggart and have been so inspired ever since.

As you may have noticed, we’ve had a few changes in these parts lately. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on why those changes happened and what exactly they were.

But mostly, I wanted to take a hot sec to say farewell to the old blog name that I felt too defined by and welcome to the new one!

    One Degree Hotter

I graduated from college!! I now have my Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and (hopefully) never have to stress over a homework deadline again.

Right after I walked out of my last final I instantly felt so FREE. Almost 100 pounds lighter. No more unnecessary stress about things that keep me up until past midnight.
