Spooky but Sweet: Skeleton Tights at the Apple Orchard

Styling skeleton tights may seem like something for only emo, gothic, or Halloween obsessed people, but that is simply closed-minded! Skeleton tights can easily be made into something actually quite adorable and wearable! And to prove it, I have this outfit I wore to an apple orchard.

I gave up on trying to dress completely girly or completely emo a long time ago, and have come to terms with my sweet spot being somewhere in between. Thus the “school-girl who could also maybe be a demon?” look was born.

Or if you’re a Taylor Swift fan, I like to say my style is like her lyrics from Blank Space: “Darling I’m a nightmare, dressed like a daydream.” Except, the nightmare comes out a little more in October.

What I’m trying to say is, I actually don’t dress super “goth” or “Halloween.” Not even during spooky season. And I never dress super girly. So if you’re the same, or fall more on the feminine side or the dark demon side of the spectrum, incorporating skeleton tights into your outfit is really quite easy.

Taking Advantage of Back to School Sales as a College Graduate

*This post is sponsored by Kohl’s. Also, if you click on a link I may receive a small commission at no extra charge to you. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own and I would never share something I didn’t love myself. Thank you for supporting brands that support Life with Caitlyn.

I may never have to show up to a classroom at the end of summer ever again (hopefully) but you bet I’m always going to be shopping those back to school sales. We are a bargain hunter in this house and will always accept a discount. Gotta take whatever we can get now that we can’t get a student discount anymore, right?

I’m super excited about today’s post because it’s sponsored by Kohl’s and y’all I used to shop at Kohl’s all the time for BTS clothes. I’d go with my mom and we’d use all her Kohl’s Cash and it was a good time.

Speaking of back to school and saving money, right now (from 8/2-8/18) Kohl’s is running a back to school offer where you can get $10 off your $50 purchase and can be used on all Mudd apparel! Whether you’re actually buying clothes for going back to high school or college, or just wanting to take advantage of the sales as a broke college graduate, Kohl’s has you covered with cute pieces that won’t deplete your hard-earned summer cash.

I teamed up with them to showcase some of their pieces from their juniors Mudd line. Which spoiler alert, you may have to size up since it’s juniors, but it’s usually cheaper than shopping in the women’s section. What a fun life hack am I right?

Now let’s get on to these back to school outfits!

How I Plan and Shoot Photos by Myself

I don’t take a lot of photos by myself. Most of the time I’m fortunate enough to have my little sister, one of my best friends, or my boyfriend there to snap photos for me. But sometimes, I go all out and the tripod comes with me.

Today I’m going to be sharing the workflow behind how I plan all my photoshoots and also how I shoot some of them by myself. Like the ones in this post today!

    Scouting Locations

I am always scouting locations. Anytime I’m driving somewhere, walking to work, or out on a run I’m looking at places through a photographer’s lens. Something I fine-tuned during my days gallivanting across Europe.

Sometimes I’m just looking for the basics: good lighting, and a basic Insta backdrop. Usually this implies shade or a white background. Maybe lots of flowers, a cute door, or just outside seating.

Over the past few months though, I like to think I’ve become more creative with how I shoot shots and how I want them framed. This in turn affects me picking locations. Think branches to hold, or a light post to lean off of, stairs to be moody on.

But my favorite obsession: the ugly location challenge. I obsessed over this last year when it went viral with Kelsey Maggart and have been so inspired ever since.

    Three Graduation Outfits with PrettyLittleThing

*This post is in collaboration with Pretty Little Thing. I received items from Pretty Little Thing to write this post, but all thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting brands that support College with Caitlyn.

The day this goes live there are only 46 days until I graduate from college. *Cue the confetti and happy dances*

I started keeping track a few weeks ago when Abigail were recording a podcast episode and were talking about how soon graduation was. So now I have an official countdown on the white board next to my desk that gets updated religiously every night before bed.

Up until about a month ago I wasn’t even sure I wanted to walk at graduation. I was just more excited about not having weekly quizzes and like forty problems of homework a week (and that’s just for one of my four classes).

But then I realized if I walk at graduation that I get to wear a super cute outfit, and that’s where this post comes in! PrettyLittleThing actually reached out to me about showcasing items from their graduation shop. And let me tell you, these pieces are STUNNING.

    Blue Bardot Frill Dress

This was the piece I was most excited about because it’s literally like my brand colors. #ThatCoolTonedLife
